In Chapter Fifteen, the act of walking behind the coffins in the funeral procession is a striking symbolic image. Olson is willing to do this alone, but thankfully has Michael there to support him. These two men represent loyalty, courage, and respect for doing what is right. It is also in this scene that the author foreshadows the importance Arthur, as he implies that Arthur has an intense dislike for Erik Olson.
