Mrs. Jacinski is forced to sell her wedding ring in order to pay some of the back rent that they owe for their apartment. Being seen without a wedding ring is very shameful for a married woman during this time period, even when the husband is deceased. Therefore, Mrs. Jacinski often hides her hand when she is out in public so no one will know.
