What is a "taxi dancer" as defined in the novel, Ten Cents a Dance?

A taxi dancer is a woman who dances with a man, and only dances, in exchange for payment. Ruby dances with men at the Starlight for one ticket per song that cost the man a dime. Ruby gets a nickel from the ticket while the Starlight keeps the other nickel.
