John Muir Medical Center is the hospital where Christine was diagnosed and began treatments after the stroke. She described a few specific sites within the hospital but was more interested in how the places within the hospital pertained to her experiences there. For example, she and a therapist went to the hospital gift shop where they bought a few things. Christine later could not remember the experience but knew it happened because she wrote about it in her diary. She does write about the importance of the hospital room and how it kept her from being too stimulated during that first stage of healing. This is also where Christine gave birth to her daughter. Coincidentally, she was in the postpartum area of the labor and delivery unit the first night she was hospitalized after her stroke, and she returned to that same unit to give birth eight years later.
