Christine had multiple MRIs in the days after the stroke and for years following. At one point, she had the chance to view a series of images to form a side-by-side comparison, just as the technicians and doctors did. In the first image after the stroke, the affected area looked like wispy clouds. While not large in comparison to the size of the brain, it was large compared to the affected region – the thalamus. In subsequent images, the area became smaller and more defined, and Christine compared that to her recovery.
