Why is Hamlet dissolute at the beginning of the story?

At the beginning of Hamlet, Hamlet's father, the king, is murdered by his brother, Claudius who then marries Gertrude, Hamlet's mother. Though Hamlet does not know the truth of the murder yet, he detests his mother and uncle for their hasty marriage.
