The day of their wedding, Petruchio shows up late, dressed oddly and with no finery for Katharine. At his house, he pretends the food, bed and clothing offered Katherine are not good enough for her and doesn't let her have them. She is totally fatigued, starving and has nothing nice to wear. Finally she is totally tamed by this treatment and becomes completely humble and obedient.
