After Romeo is banished from Verona, Juliet drinks a potion which will make her appear dead for forty-two hours. The message telling Romeo Juliet is not dead but sleeps doesn't get to Romeo in time, but he does learn of Juliet's death. He buys poison and when he arrives at the tomb, he takes the poison. Juliet awakes and stabs herself.
