In Chapter 7 of Day and Night, why did the narrator burn Tracey's letter?

Tracey sent the narrator a letter. In the letter she told the narrator that she had seen the narrator's father having sex with an inflatable doll. After reading the letter, the narrator burned it because she was so shocked and hurt by what Tracey said.
