Images of violins appear throughout the novel, and work in tandem to symbolize hope and longing. In the context of Dawn's story, the violin is a symbol of what she wants to become, but struggles to attain. For Momo, the violin is a symbol of what he has lost, and what he wants to recreate through his daughter. For Junie, the violin becomes a symbol, through her new relationship with Dawn, of a connection to her parents, and regenerating the hopes they were unable to fulfill.
