Trout River is a symbol of home. Both Momo and Junie grow up here with Momo's parents. When Momo is growing up, he is desperate to leave. However, as a grown man living in America, he clings to memories of Trout River in order to understand himself. For Junie, Trout River symbolizes stability and comfort. She is disinterested in joining her parents in the States, because it means abandoning the place in which she understands herself best.
