Joseph and Mary Riveras (the Patrón) buys Lee Chong's Heavenly Flower grocery from Lee Chong before he leaves town. Joseph and Mary is a well dressed Mexican man from Los Angeles who has always lived a life of crime. As a young boy he was a pool hustler and was even a gang leader. After getting caught running the biggest marijuana ring as a City employee, he was forced out of town and he came to Monterey. Joseph and Mary is in the business of illegal immigrants. He brings them to the United States, then gives them a job in the fields which supplies his grocery with produce. Joseph and Mary believes that every business needs to be run by a man and that women need to remain poor. He is always looking for ways to expand his business and he wants to take over the Bear Flag.
