Why does Swami run away from the Board High School, and what happens to him in the forest in the novel, Swami and Friends?

Swami runs away because he is going to be the object of corporal punishment at the Board High School. Once in the forest, a place that Swami had always found enjoyable, he comes to see a new dark and fear-inspiring side, reminding the reader that at the end of the day, behind his bluster and confidence, Swami is still a scared little boy lost in the dark woods.
