According to Chapter 6, what is the relationship between the mass culture and subcultures?

Although they may not admit it, the mass culture has a fear of subcultures. This fear is not of the subcultures themselves, but the fact that their direction is unknown. This fear causes the mass culture to lump into one category the participants of a subculture.
