What is the setting of Storm Thief by Chris Wooding?

The setting of the novel, The Storm Thief, is the fictional island of Orokos, at some time perhaps in the distant future of Earth, or perhaps in an alternate reality of its own. Some of the features (the clothes, items and props) we can recognise, as well as some of the races of humanity, so we can assume that this is a twisted, dark fantasy world set in our own future.
