At the close of Part III, Wooding uses the constant threat of Finch, drawing nearer, to remind the readers that danger is always near and that their time of secure idyll in Kilitas is about to come to a dramatic end. Finch starts to take on the symbolic importance of an approaching storm, unstoppable, and implacable.
