This book is twenty-six chapters, all except the first describing events in chronological order, like a history book. The first chapter is a letter from Jess to her long-lost lover, Theresa, which she is ready to compose at the end of the book. The other chapters take Jess from birth to her epiphany at the gay pride rally. In this respect, it reads like a book of history.
