What does The Gorgoneion represent?

The Gorgoneion is symbolic of exploitation. After Perseus kills Medusa, he takes her decapitated head and begins using it as his personal weapon. The Gorgoneion thus has no agency over her body or her actions. Perseus uses her power for his own personal gain.
