Importance of Sandals and Helmet

Hermes's sandals and Hades's helmet are symbolic of assistance. Although Perseus is the alleged hero of the story, Perseus has no real skills or talents of his own. Indeed, the only way that he is able to defeat Medusa is because the gods and nymphs lend him the sandals and helmet. He is therefore empowered by the gifts and generosity of others.
