How does the author use foreshadowing in Steal the Dragon?

In Chapter One, we learn that Rialla has lost most of the talent for empathy that she was born with. Although her father was teaching her to control her talent (training horses), the experience of captivity is too much for her, and she loses most of her ability. Since this is only the first chapter, this is basically foreshadowing that she is regain her talent back somehow.
