Importance of Mirror

In a literal sense, mirrors accurately depict one’s physical appearance. Eliana avoids looking at herself and seeing herself as others do because she does not want to be constantly reminded of being overweight. She does not have a mirror in her bedroom because it also calls to mind a memory of her mother forcing her to look in the mirror while she points out all of the flaws in her body.
