Who is Alexandras Mother from Something Wonderful and what is their importance?

Alexandra's mother is described at the very beginning as being shallow and impressionable. Mrs. Lawrence's father makes her marry Alexandra's father, after he finds them together in a compromising position. After she marries Mr. Lawrence, she stays in a house in Morsham with the obscure title her husband held and claiming she is a noble woman. Her husband comes to visit only a few times a year. When he dies, and she finds out that she and her daughter were not his only family and were not entitled to anything, she falls into a deep depression and is unable to take care of things for herself. Alexandra takes over and cares for her mother.
