Alexandra is the heroine of the story. She has stunning blue eyes and chestnut brown hair. Besides her eyes, she is very plain and nothing special, compared to the blond, pale skin beauties of London. She starts out as a young girl, learning philosophy from her grandfather. Alexandra is very kind hearted and does everything she can to please everyone. The one person she desperately wants the approbation and attention of is her father. She learns to hunt, thinking that her father would have preferred a boy and wishes she were prettier so he would love her more.
