Darcy Rhone is the main character and narrator of the novel. Darcy is a beautiful woman who uses her physical attributes to gain popularity and success. Darcy is raised in Indianapolis, the eldest of two and the only girl. Darcy's beauty and outlook on life is cultivated by her mother who perfectly curls Darcy's hair every morning before school. Though Darcy has her main group of friends in school which includes Rachel, Annalise, and Ethan, Darcy circulates in the more popular cliques, as well. Always the benevolent leader, Darcy makes sure she is never mean and monitors the behaviors of other popular girls.
