Who is Claire from Something Blue and what is their importance?

Claire isn't considered one of the beautiful people, but according to Darcy, she is the most connected. She uses her talents to align herself with the most beautiful and influential in order to get and maintain contacts. Claire has been vying for her place as Darcy's best friend since she and Darcy were roommates. When Claire finds out Rachel has betrayed Darcy, she is happy to fill her shoes.

When she learns that Darcy isn't getting married and is dating Marcus, a man Claire deems unworthy, Claire is disappointed. When Darcy shares the news of her pregnancy, Claire can go no further. Claire's partner in the social scene needs to be flawless, and a pregnancy, even if that woman is Darcy Rhone, is useless to Claire, outside of being used as fodder for the gossip mill.
