With what does Aissatou surprise the narrator and what is Modou's response? Does it surprise you, the reader, that another woman would give a car to a her best friend when the husband is not providing for her?

Aissatou surprises her with a brand new car. The narrator is quite grateful, but Modou doesn't believe Aissatou would sacrifice so much for his first wife and cannot believe that the car had come from her. In the United States, it might not be so surprising that one's best friend would give one a car if it is needed, but in such a patriarchal culture, it is a little surprising.
