How does the narrator feel about Tamsir's (Modou's brother) offer of marriage to take place after the mourning period? Why does Tamsir make this offer of marriage?

The narrator was outraged at being treated like an object that could be passed on from hand to hand. For once in her life she spoke out and let him know that she would never marry him and be one of his obedient wives who all had to work hard to make ends meet because he couldn't provide for them and their children. It is traditional in the Muslim faith that a man marry the widow of his brother.
