So Far from God
What and how has Sofi changed in the end of the novel?
This is a start to my idea but I was not sure if I was in the right track. Please review it before answering, I just need a little bit of advice because my teacher is a really hard grader. I have never had problems with writing papers before this semester. Thanks!
Throughout the novel So Far from God, by Ana Castillo, one of the main characters Sofi had changed in many aspects because of some events that she had experienced. She becomes stronger and more assertive toward the end of the novel. One event that had made her more assertive was when she filed for divorce, which had taken twenty years. The ironic part about Sofi waiting for so long to file was that she has been without a man in her life for quite some time; and she was used to raising and supporting the family herself. In the community, that Sofi is a part of, a divorce is against the “norms,” and is looked down upon. Towards the end of the novel, Sofi breaks free from the “norms,” and finally stands up for what she believes in.
Sofi had become more of a strong-willed woman because she eventually stopped caring what the community or relatives thought about her divorce to Domingo. Castillo says, “Back then, to be excommunicated was more fearful to Sofia than the thought of destitution...
