Who is Orhan Bey from Snow and what is their importance?

Orhan was a childhood friend of Ka's. Ka's family asked Orhan to go to Germany for them and bring back Ka's belongings. Orhan went also because Ka had told him just before he died that he had finished a book of poetry and would send him a copy when he sent it to the publisher.
