What are the motifs in Snow by Orhan Pamuk?

Appearance and reality are recurring ideas in this story. What appeared on the surface was not always the reality in Snow. On the surface, Ka appeared to be a successful poet and was presented that way to everyone he met when he arrived in Kars. And yet, the reality was he had not written a poem in years, until he came to Kars for those few days; it appeared that he didn't write any more after he left again.
