What prompts Morris Zapp's release from his kidnappers?

Upon returning home from the conference in Switzerland, Fulvia Morgana sits down with the newspapers to catch up on the news. Almost immediately she asks her husband if he has mentioned to any of their friends that Morris was married to the novelist Desiree Byrd and when he admits he may have, to Carlo, Fulvia immediately leaps up and says Carlo will get them all killed. That night, Morris is pulled roughly from bed and drugged, only to awaken the next morning under a tree, his hands free. He stumbles to a nearby road and within minutes, Fulvia Morgana drives up and feigns surprise, exclaiming that everyone has been looking for him.
