Describe the atmosphere Philip sets to tell his story about Joy.

When Philip announces to Morris that he has a story, Morris leaves the room to get a cigar. While he is gone, Philip draws two armchairs near the hearth and turns the gas fire on. In between the chairs he puts a coffee table, and on the table is whisky, glasses, water, and an ashtray. He has also turned off the lights, so the room is lit only by the fire.
