How does the author use foreshadowing in Six Degrees of Separation?

Rick's withdrawal of money on Paul's behalf, of which, Elizabeth is ignorant, in addition to his sexual interlude with Paul in the cab foreshadows his eventual suicide.... something that becomes evident in his reaction to his actions.
