In Chapter Fifty, while Inda lies on the beach in Michael's arms, she uses an extended metaphor to compare her relationship with Michael to the horror of her past relationships, basically stating that Michael is like the sunshine after her stormy past, but without the past, she would never have been able to truly appreciate him.
