What is the visitors challenge?

The visitor (Green Knight) agrees that whoever chooses to take part in the challege will be allowed to take an axe to him on the spot..... right then and there, in the middle of the court. In exchange, the Green Knight will strike his own blow upon the volunteer a year and a day later.
