How do the priests show their innocence in Chapter 1?

The innocence of the young priests is evident in their positive attitude. Even as Valignano tells them about the atrocities being inflicted on Christians, the two men continue to beseech their Superior with the good that they can perform. These young priests are in no way prepared for what they will encounter.
