Meaning of Misty

Misty's presence alternately symbolizes guilt and, eventually, comfort, once Sarah and Theo forgive themselves for what they did as children. At first, when Misty comes up in the internal monologue of any of the characters, it is simply as a haunting presence that they do not like to remember. However, when Sarah has a breakthrough regarding how to handle her car accident and is able to talk to Theo about it for the first time, Theo begins to conceive of her spiritual presence as embracing and even somewhat calming.
