How does Warren Leight use imagery in Side Man?

Leight uses the image of Terry working as a waitress to illuminate the audience as to the meaninglessness of Gene's promises. His only focus is his place with the music business, a place that is also losing its meaning as the American cultural scene shifts from big band to rock.
