There are some interesting points of symbolism within the story, especially as relates to color. Robert's sister surrounds herself with black and white and has an aversion to the color red. Nikolas's house is black and white with little other color in the entire house. However, the night Sarah arrives at Nikolas's party, Kaleo is there and he is wearing a bright red shirt.
