Symbol of The Fading Murals

The fading murals symbolize a fading Brooklyn. Brooklyn is losing touch with its sense of community and its heritage as shown by the old woman’s reaction to the violence in Sierra’s community and the fact that her mother and aunt reject their heritage. Unless someone arrives who can once again create this sense of community and exchange between the past and the present, Brooklyn will lose its heritage and suffer the same fate as the shadowshapers if someone in the role of Lucera does not appear.
