Who is Wilkie from Serena and what is their importance?

Wilkie is involved in business with the Pembertons. After Buchanan is murdered, Wilkie sells his shares back to the Pembertons for a pittance, knowing that it was the Pembertons who were responsible for Buchanan's death.
