Greek philosopher, Heraclitus, interested Borges because of his famous idea that time is a river, ever-changing.... meaning that no one can step twice into the same river. Borges reflected deeply on this concept, because the river remained the same and yet was different.... for Borges, time is the substance of our lives. Borges felt that Heraclitus understood the nature of time and change, and as a result, he felt a strong intellectual kinship with him.
