Significance of Locket

The locket that Virgil digs up is a symbol of hope. Virgil believes that the girl whose picture is in the locket he found discarded in the abandoned lot looks like the goddess of crops and the earth. He cleans up the locket and asks the girl to oversee their crops and let the lettuce grow.
