She is a spiteful old woman and one of the main reasons that Dawn leaves Virginia. The reader finds out why she dislikes Dawn so much at the very end when it is revealed that Dawn's Grandfather is her true biological father. Grandmother Cutler calls Dawn 'her curse'.
