Dawn is a young woman who has left her home in Virginia to come to New York to pursue a career in the performing arts. She comes to live with Agnes who owns a boarding house. Dawn learns who she is and grows a a character through many trials including family betrayal, incest, relationship tragedy, and kidnapping. In the end, Dawn comes through with a renewed sense of herself and what she is capable of.
