Mac is the instructor for the special writing program Jessica attend over the summer before starting her senior year. Jessica has a crush on Mac, but finds out that he is gay. When Jessica accidentally hands in her private journal to Mac instead of her class journal, Mac discovers Jessica's true writing talent. He ends up writing a letter of recommendation for Jessica to use when she applies to Columbia.
