The main theme in Yeats' Second Coming poem is that of the realtionship between art and politics. He tried to use his poetry to show how domination and colonization of an area created a loss to the entire human species; that those ideas and traditions that are discontinued or outlawed are perhaps those things that might have enriched everyone.
