Who is Titi?

Titi is Adah and Francis's first child. It is noted that Francis's family is disappointed that she is a girl, and Adah herself expresses a similar cultural attitude in Chapter 5 when Vicky is ill and she tells a nurse at the hospital that her other child is "only a girl" (62). Nevertheless, it is clear that Adah adores her daughter. In Chapter 4, Adah learns that Francis has told Titi that he will beat her if she speaks Yoruba, causing her to go completely silent, and Adah is furious at Francis as a result.
