What are Teaching Credentials?

Amy’s lack of official teaching credentials symbolizes the inevitability of personal setbacks. All of the characters in the novel experience personal hardships and setback, such as Amy’s failure to acquire official teaching credentials. However, at the end of the novel, she becomes newly determined to acquire these credentials, and the narrative lauds her persistence.
