Who are The Refugees?

On the beach, the narrator and his family wait with a group of other refugees. There are not only refugees from Syria in the group, but also refugees from other war-torn countries, such as Somalia, Afghanistan, Iraq, and Eritrea. Judging by the illustrations, that specific group of refugees consists of about 30 people. Together, they all tightly crowd into one relatively small, motor-powered boat that will hopefully be able to deliver them safely across the sea.
